In 2009, she was appointed as Chief Justice of the Fifth District Court of Appeals, the largest intermediate appellate court in Texas, by Gov. Rick Perry.She is also the first African American woman in Texas history to win a multicounty election.Maj. Gen. Mary SaundersBorn in Nacogdoches, Maj. Gen. Mary Saunders was raised in Houston.

She made her solo debut in 2003 with her album, “Dangerously In Love,” which received five Grammy awards.Knowles-Carter also made history in 2018 when she became the first Black woman to headline Coachella. On March 28, 1972, she was elected president pro tempore of the Texas senate, and she became the first Black woman in the country to preside over a legislative body.

In 1976, she became both the first woman and first African American keynote speaker at the Democratic National Convention., including: the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in 1984; induction into the National Women’s Hall of Fame in 1990; and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1994.Lizzo accepts the award for record of the year for"About Damn Time" at the 65th annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, in Los Angeles.on April 27, 1988, in Detroit.
