Famine Imminent in Northern Gaza Unless Cease-Fire is Implemented, Warns IPCThe Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) initiative warns of a possible famine in the north of Gaza unless a cease-fire is implemented to allow consistent delivery of food and supplies. The report states that the conditions to prevent famine have not been met and confirms that famine is imminent in the northern governorates. It predicts that the highest stage of food insecurity, equivalent to famine, may occur in the next month and a half. Additionally, 70% of the remaining population in the north will experience 'catastrophic' levels of hunger. The report highlights the impact of continued conflict and limited access to humanitarian aid and essential services. Currently, governorates in the south of Gaza are classified as Phase 4, indicating high levels of malnutrition and reliance on emergency strategies or asset liquidation. However, the three southern governorates also face a risk of famine in a worst-case scenario until July 2024.
