Keegan Altomare races in Soap Box Championship after home destroyed in fire.
On Saturday, they found a small piece of normalcy as they competed in the 86th annual First Energy Soap Box Derby World Championships.“It’s very humbling to be here and be able to race again,” said Kevin.
During the fire on Tuesday, while everyone was running to safety, Keegan was stuck in the basement. He tells 19 News it was a scary situation but he’s thankful a family friend was able to rescue him, making Saturday’s race so important.Kevin said the family has received a lot of support from the community and their derby family.
With friends and family yelling his name, Keegan sat down and took a deep breath. Seconds later, he crossed the finish line.A week that started out in the most unimaginable way, ended with a trophy that can’t be welded together.
