Utterly heartbreaking
The family of a 'gentle giant' who died just weeks after being diagnosed with cancer say his death has ripped through his home community in Nottinghamshire. Shane Wagstaff, a dad-of-five from Mansfield Woodhouse, died on September 25, aged 49.
"When he was first diagnosed I thought he would have a few years left or could be cured," recalled his eldest daughter Katie, 21. "Then we were told it was terminal, he went completely downhill. You don't even have time to process it, it's the last thing you ever expect."Shane, a former window fabricator, had originally dismissed stomach pains as he had suffered with them for a number of years.
"Our world's been turned upside down and it's never going to be the same again." The 51-year-old described Shane as a "big friendly giant" who was known by people throughout Mansfield Woodhouse. "It's shocked us and the entire community," she said. "It's ripped through the village.
