That shooting happened back on July 7, on Waltrip Street and Rook Boulevard, after officers were trying to chase down a suspect, who they say had a gun and assaulted a woman. Family members and attorney Randall Kallinen identified the man as 26-year-old Brendan Brown, and they believe officers did not follow protocol. "He was executed. Why in the head? Why not tased? Or why, why this way? You just robbed him of his whole life, and you get to go home and enjoy your kid. I don't understand," the suspect's mother, Kimberly Gray, said. You can see the moment an officer opens fire in the video. Authorities also said the suspect was shot in the head.Kalinen believes the video does not tell the whole story and claims there could be more video. "Get all the videos out so we can see exactly what happened, not little bits and pieces that they put together with their narrative. So we're here today asking for transparency," Kallinen said.ABC13 showed the body camera footage to a law enforcement expert who disagrees. "The sergeant that used deadly force was totally within his right. The suspect clearly had a weapon based on what we have seen on the body-worn camera," retired HPD Captain Greg Fremin said.However, former Captain Fremin said when someone is shot in the head, there's not much officers can do in that situation. "There is nothing in our department policy that mandates that officers have to immediately apply CPR. What it does state is that they will apply CPR medical aid if possible," Fremin said."I'll never see my son again. I want the cops to be held accountable for what they did to my child," Gray said.ABC13 reached out to HPD about the family's concerns, and they just referred us back to their full video released Thursday of the shooting.
