On September 19, 2021, an off-campus party got out of control and then it turned violent. Police said several fights broke out and someone pulled a gun and shot randomly into the crowd.
Family of victim in deadly shooting near University of Akron still desperate for justice nearly 3 years later AKRON , Ohio - Three people were shot at an off-campus party near the University of Akron nearly three years ago. Two of them died.
“If it takes everything in me, if it takes my last breath I will get justice for my son,” said Keesha Wilson-Law, who lost her son in the shooting. 18-year-old University of Akron student Maya McFetridge was also shot along with a 22-year-old man. Both McFetridge and Beasley died from their injuries. “I do believe that if we could get justice for Alex, for me as his mother, I think that’s kind of like my final motherly deed to him, that’s the last thing that I can do for him, and for myself, and for our family, is to just get justice and I won’t say that we can move on, but just so we can begin the healing process,” Wilson-Law said.
