Monday night, the family hosted a gathering for transparency, justice, and accountability at the Bethel AME Church in Mobile.

According to Alabama law, immediate family can request to see police body cam footage even if it’s not released to the public.“I want to know what happened to my son,” said Christine Dallas, Jawan’s mother. “I want to know why my son is not here. I want to know why my son is dead. I want to know why the police officers went to my son’s car. We don’t know anything, and I can’t get any rest not knowing what happened to my son.

In July, MPD was called to the Plantation Mobile Home Park in reference to a burglary. According to MPD when they arrived, they saw Dallas, and he ran. Investigators said he resisted arrest, which led to an officer tasing him twice.“The officers restrained themselves very well and had every right under the policy and under state law to implement deadly force, and they didn’t do it,” said Paul Prine, chief of Mobile Police. They have since been denied and continued to wonder why.

“It’s a little concerning that this video has not been released,” said Reverend Mark Thompson. “What is on it? What is it that we are not allowed to see?”Mobile police said they are now back on the job. Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood has said the family will be able to see the video, once a grand jury issues a report on the case.City of Mobile needs help naming new electric garbage truck
