Dirk Kotze was struck at a Brendale golf course on Sunday afternoon as intense storms swept across the state's south-east.

Speaking outside the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital where he is being treated, Mr Kotze's family thanked his golf partner "who didn't give up on him", and bystanders who risked their own safety to help.Dirk Kotze's niece Taryn Perrior, Mel Swart with her husband, Dirk Kotze's step-son Daniel Swart, and friend Aden Kemp.

"Without CPR for a prolonged time he really wouldn't have had any shot at all, they've done an incredible job at saving his life and to allow him to have the treatment that he's receiving at the moment, and we're so grateful for that.Dirk Kotze was struck by lightning at a Moreton Bay golf course.
