This is the second drowning incident involving a young child to occur at Ko Olina Lagoon 4 in recent years.

A Utah family is mourning the loss of their 5-year-old son after he drowned at Ko Olina Lagoon 4 on the island of Oahu last month,Becca and Stanley Martin were on a family vacation to Hawaii with their nine children, a trip they told KHON2 was"a dream come true." On their second day there, they went snorkeling at Ko Olina Lagoon 4, one of four man-made swimming coves on the western shore of Oahu.

The Martins then saw their 5-year-old son Noah being pulled from the water and given CPR by a stranger. “It happened so fast. I couldn’t even speak. I couldn’t even breathe. It just felt like a nightmare," Becca told KHON2. Honolulu Emergency Medical Services and the fire department responded to the incident, but were unable to save Noah.

Becca told KHON2 that because the water was calm and Noah and his siblings were snorkeling in the shallow end of the lagoon, she thought he would be OK.
