NSTnation: Family members of the 298 people killed when Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 was shot out of the sky will be given an opportunity to speak during the trial to start on Monday.
District Court of The Hague press judge Yolande Wijnnobel said family members could address the court directly or submit a written impact assessment.Wijnnobel explained that family members would usually appear only after the court has heard the merits of the case.
The MH17 trial will commence at 10am on Monday at the heavily-secured Schiphol Judicial Court complex in Badhoevedorp here. A Joint Investigative Team , led by Dutch authorities and comprising investigators from Malaysia, Australia, Belgium and Ukraine, concluded in 2016 that the flight was shot down by a Russian BUK surface-to-air missile.
