A California family, forced to flee their Malibu home in the face of the raging Palisades Fire, grapples with the loss of their residence while finding strength in the unwavering support of their community. Marlin Rodriguez and her husband, with their young children, barely escaped with their lives, leaving behind everything but the metal frame of their mobile home. Though their future remains uncertain, the Rodriguez family has found temporary refuge in an Airbnb and has been touched by the outpouring of generosity from those around them.
Malibu residents are uniting to support those affected by the devastating wildfires, but one California family faces an uncertain future after their home was destroyed in the Palisades Fire. Marlin Rodriguez and her husband had a mere 30 minutes to gather their 5-year-old son and 11-month-old daughter before their Malibu residence was engulfed in flames. 'My husband said ‘wake up … We need to leave, the fire's on the other side of the hill.
' And I got up quickly and just grabbed what I could, you know, just our documents. And I grabbed my 11-month infant and my five-year-old son, and we went straight into the car,' Rodriguez shared with FOX Business. Returning to their mobile home is now impossible, with only the metal frame remaining. Like many others, the Rodriguez family is currently residing in an Airbnb, but their future housing remains unclear after Friday. 'Maybe we'll go to a shelter. Before we went to the Airbnb, we were at Ritchie Valens Rec Center. It's a shelter that the Red Cross put there,' she explained. The Rodriguez family, while navigating this difficult situation, finds solace in the community's support. Volunteers have established a staging area where families in need can access essential supplies. 'We're here for the diapers. We need diapers. So that's what we're here for. We did have some people come to our place at the Airbnb and drop off some clothes for the kids,' Rodriguez stated. She acknowledges her son's struggles to grasp the situation and emphasizes that she is providing him with comfort and reassurance, explaining that they can rebuild their lives together. 'A lot of hugs. He's having a hard time. He's trying to understand. But it really does hurt. And I just tell him, 'Well, you know what? We’re together. You know, like we're together and things are going to get better,'' she said. ''And we just got to start from the bottom, but we’re together. We got to thank God for that. And thank God for everybody that's trying to bless us.' The family has established a GoFundMe page for those who wish to contribute to their recovery
