An inspirational sportswoman and dedicated fundraiser has died. It has been confirmed that Claire Lomas, from Melton Mowbray, died on Thursday, August 22, following an accident in Jordan, in the Middle East.

After being told she would never walk again, Claire proved people wrong by walking the London Marathon in 2012 in a bionic suit. It took her 17 days to complete the distance and she raised £220,000 for the Nicholls Spinal Injury Foundation. She received an Honorary Degree in recognition of her significant contribution to fundraising for spinal injuries research. Claire lived in Melton Mowbray with her husband Dan and their two young daughters.
