104 students from the University of Saskatchewan's ITEP creative writing course will have their work published in a new book.
“The level of some of the students’ writing is profoundly good,” said Robertson, who aims to distribute the third ITEP creative writing anthology over the second weekend in July.
Seeing the growth as a sign of success, Robertson took the best writing from those three years, typed it into a manuscript and turned it into a book. Five hundred copies were handed out to the community.Article content “It was empowering for our students to be able to see and hear the voices of other Indigenous educators who potentially were their teachers at one point, or their family members, or they know these people, and have this work actually being used in their own classroom,” Thunderchild said.Article content
She said Robertson’s first year English class showed her the way literature could open “so many doors” by giving her the confidence to tell not only her own stories, but to envision other people’s stories that were potentially going untold.Article content
