Families with school-aged children could get a cash boost worth up to £825 to help them pay for household essentials such as food bills and school uniform costs. The money comes via the Household Support Fund – a government grant worth a total of £500 million that’s given out to local councils.

How much help is being given out? Families who live in the Medway area will be given help through food vouchers worth up to £225 per household, school uniform vouchers worth £100 per child per year and up to £100 towards energy and water bills. Essentials for energy and housing costs Essentials for energy and housing costs will be decided on a case-by-case basis. Who is eligible for the help? The fund is available to anyone who lives in the Medway area, including those who are not currently in receipt of benefits or who aren’t eligible for public funds.However, the council has confirmed it will not award a payment to any application it feels is ‘not an immediate need’.
