A good Samaritan helped Cortez out of her car, and she suffered injuries to her knee. The 20-year-old said she was starting to get her life together and was proud to buy her car before this tragedy. Her car is being held as evidence, and while she says she does not have much, she plans to help the victims how she can through online fundraisers.
