False negative: Officials say Russian virus tests often give wrong result

MOSCOW: Tests used throughout Russia to determine if someone has COVID-19 or not often give the wrong result, Moscow officials said on Thursday , in a statement further calling into question the veracity of official statistics.

Given that failure, it said Moscow, which is far better resourced than other Russian regions, was now sometimes using another test, an antibodies test, in conjunction with the PCR. A recent coronavirus outbreak in a National Guard unit in the town of Syktyvkar, 1,000km northeast of Moscow also exposed flaws in the PCR tests.
