DFW Fire & Rescue was called to a rural farm labor cottage last night for a reported venomous snake bite. A frantic woman's call, complete with a photograph of the alleged wound, prompted an immediate and urgent response. Upon arrival, responders discovered the entire incident was a hoax.
A frantic call to the DFW Fire & Rescue emergency control room last night sent responders racing against time to save a life, only to discover that the supposed life-or-death crisis was an elaborate ruseAt approximately 10:30 PM, a distraught woman called the emergency hotline, reporting that a family member had been bitten by a venomous snake at a rural farm labor cottage. In a bid to emphasize the urgency, she even sent a disturbing photo of the alleged snakebite wound.
DFW medical responders were dispatched immediately, with ambulance services on high alert. Two volunteers rushed to the scene, prepared to transport the patient themselves if necessary. En route, the team maintained constant communication with the caller, providing first-aid instructions and consulting with medical experts to prepare for what seemed like a critical situation.
‘The young man who had supposedly been bitten was perfectly fine,’ van Leeuwen Boomkamp explained. ‘He had staged the incident to shock his family and friends, even going as far as inflicting a fake bite wound on himself. The whole thing was a stunt for attention.’ ‘We are appalled and disappointed by this reckless behavior,’ van Leeuwen Boomkamp said. ‘Our responders are trained to save lives, not to be the butt of a cruel joke. This prank wasted precious resources and time that could have been used to help someone in a real emergency.’
