After just two hours since its start, the Great War had ended, and the world had been replaced by the wasteland. Nuclear fallout destroyed most of the plant life in America, and much of the wasteland was barren and desolate. The wasteland wasn't empty, though, as many of the animals of the world were mutated into horrific monsters, like cazadores and Deathclaws, after being exposed to huge amounts of radiation.
How Fallout's Apocalypse Changed Society Factions Emerged After The Great War Close After the Great War, modern society collapsed, and the few survivors of the bombs tried to create a new one. The horrors of the war still remained, though, so society was still in its infancy even 200 years after the war. The only places safe from the wasteland were often independent towns and settlements, though some semblances of government did try to take power.
