Marvin Gruber, 59, and Assistant Fire Chief Zachary Paris, 36, died at St. Luke’s Hospital-Miners Campus on Wednesday, both succumbing to injuries suffered fighting in West Penn Township. Pennsylvania State Police and other first responders participated in the escort that started about 3:30 p.m.Related:Both firefighters became trapped in the burning house but were removed and given medical attention before being transported to St. Luke’s.
“The Community Fire Company of New Tripoli is saddened by the tragic loss of their two fire members in the line of duty. These members made the ultimate sacrifice for their community and country. They are truly heroes,” the fire company said in a statement read Thursday afternoon outside of the station. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to their loved ones.”
Gruber had been with the fire company since 2020, and Paris had been there since 2010. Gruber also worked as the assistant chief with Northampton Community College’s public safety department.
