Gil Brandt, quien fue opacado por el entrenador en jefe Tom Landry y el gerente general Tex Schramm como parte del trío de arquitectos que convirtieron a los Cowboys de Dallas en el “Equipo de América” durante la década de 1970, falleció a los 91 años de edad.
El Salón de la Fama del Fútbol Americano Profesional informó que Brandt falleció la mañana del jueves. No se dio a conocer la causa del deceso, pero la salud de Brandt había ido en deterioro en los últimos años.
“No se puede contar la historia del éxito de los Cowboys de Dallas y su racha de dos décadas de temporadas ganadoras desde mediados de la década de 1960 a la de 1980, sin mencionar a Gil Brandt”, dijo el presidente del Salón de la Fama, Jim Porter. Brandt finalmente se unió a Landry y a Schramm en Canton, Ohio, en 2019 y siempre dijo que nunca se sintió opacado.
Schramm, Landry y Brandt estuvieron juntos durante las primeras 29 temporadas de la franquicia, y Brandt fue el último de los tres en partir después de que Jerry Jones adquirió al equipo en 1989 y despidió de inmediato a Landry. Schramm renunció poco después y Jones ha permanecido como gerente general durante los 34 años que ha sido dueño de los Cowboys.
