Kimberly Cruz, 35, misrepresented herself as a legal advocate in order to smuggle nearly 100 migrants between April and October 2019

A San Antonio woman has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for a wire-fraud scheme that allowed her to smuggle nearly 100 undocumented immigrants into the United States. Kimberly Cruz , 35, misrepresented herself as a legal advocate in order to smuggle the migrants between April and October 2019, according to U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza .

Using the packets of documents, Cruz misrepresented herself to immigration officers at the Eagle Pass point of entry, indicating the migrants required 'humanitarian paroles,' allowing them to enter the U.S. for 24 to 48 hours in order to attend U.S. Customs and Immigration Services appointments. Humanitarian paroles are sought in life-threatening or other extremely urgent situations.
