McDevitt moves into consolation rounds while Faith Christian will take on Bishop McCort for the 2A title.
– The quest for a state team championship ended for the Bishop McDevitt boys wrestling team Saturday morning at Altoona High School, as the Crusaders dropped a 35-23 decision to Faith Christian Academy.The Crusaders will wrestling Montoursville in the upcoming consolation round and must win back-to-back dual meets to earn a third-place finish.
The match with Faith Christian, the top-ranked high school team in the country, was tied 17-17 after back-to-back decisions from Camden Baum at 139 and Easton Comp at 145. Comp’s takedown of Shane Wagner in overtime brought the Crusaders even but the Lions countered with decisions from Max Stein at 152 and Chase Hontz at 160.
Nick Singer’s pin of McDevitt’s Ryan Lengal clinched the match for Faith Christian, who will wrestle Bishop McCort, the second-ranked high school team in the country, in the championship bout at 1:30 p.m.285: Mark Effendian p.
