Texas Southern falls into early hole, can't catch up in NCAA First Four loss to Fairleigh Dickinson

Poor outside shooting did not help the Tigers’ cause either. FDU never trailed in handing TSU an 84-61 defeat, ending the Tigers’ season and giving the Knights 16 more wins than they recorded last season.FDU did a good job protecting its lead. The Tigers could not slow down the Knights, under the leadership of first-year coach Tobin Anderson.
Wednesday was a contrast of styles. The Knights of the Northeast Conference run and like to put up outside shots. The Tigers rely on their inside game. TSU missed its first 12 3-point attempts, finishing 1-of-17.Demetre Roberts, Sean Moore, Joe Munden, Grant Singleton and Ansley Almonor gave the SWAC Tournament champion more than they could handle. Tigers coach Johnny Jones played all types of lineup combinations and defenses against the Knights, but could not contain the Knights’ offense.
John Walker III was TSU’s leading scorer with 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting. Karl Nicholas put up 10 points and eight rebounds. Davon Barnes collected eight points and six rebounds for the Tigers, who were outrebounded 30-27. Almonor collected 23 points and eight rebounds and Joe Munden was good for 17 points. Roberts added 15 points and Singleton put up 13 points and seven rebounds.FDU’s starting lineup scored all but four of the Knights’ first-half points in building a 45-29 halftime advantage.
