Thursday, August 8, 2024 the city asked residents to only irrigate at night until further notice.
) - The ongoing heatwave has prompted one city on the eastern shore to ask residents to conserve water. Fairhope has a higher daily capacity since adding a new well since last year, but the extended dry spell has customers pushing usage to near capacity. It’s something Fairhope residents have gotten accustomed to. Extremely dry conditions along with heavy usage is again taxing the system. “It don’t surprise me a bit,” agreed Orville Capps. “It’s just an every year thing. It happens every year in August, you know.” While there are no mandates for water usage yet, a little rain would be nice and until it comes, folks are finding different ways to stay cool. While that’s probably the best way to stay cool, number two on the list is to stay in or around the water.“Yeah. Anything you can do to stay in the shade,” added Dustin Nelson.
