The Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Board of Education is holding community listening sessions to gather input on a proposed school consolidation plan aimed at addressing a $16 million budget deficit and a 15% drop in student enrollment. The plan involves closing several schools and redistributing students.
Published: Jan. 22, 2025 at 6:14 PM AKSTFAIRBANKS, Alaska - Following the first community listening session in North Pole, the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District Board of Education is continuing its efforts to hear from parents about the school consolidation plan and the impacts that plan could have on the families connected to the school district.
The session will include a short overview of the school consolidation plan, why it’s being pursued and the timeline for the plan. Breakout sessions are also planned covering three parts of the plan: One of those sessions include the rightsizing efforts and its connection to the school district budget and enrollment.
Redistricting and redistributing students will be another breakout session, along with the revitalization of the school district which is focusing on ways to improve educational options.
