The measures are sponsored by Fairbanks Mayor David Pruhs and Councilmembers Sue Sprinkle and John Ringstad.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Fairbanks City Council is trying to craft legislation to shrink the number of vacant and dilapidated properties within city limits.

Two ordinances under consideration at a Tuesday morning work session look to tackle the problems caused by the derelict properties. Both measures are sponsored by Fairbanks Mayor David Pruhs and Councilmembers Sue Sprinkle and John Ringstad. Ringstad, a cosponsor, cast some doubt on the idea that people should be fined if a structure is still in good condition.

The measure defines a blighted property as any structure or land parcel that endangers public health because of it’s bad state.
