Two seats are up for grabs in the 2024 municipal election, with neither incumbent seeking reelection.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Greater Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce hosted an online forum on Sept. 12, which featured candidates running for the Fairbanks North Star Borough School Board .
The four candidates gathered to take questions from the chamber about a variety of topics, from working with local leadership on budget matters, to how they would prioritize programs and services given the budget deficit over the last few years.Candidates were asked what they see as the most pressing issue for the school district now, besides the budget crisis.
Her opponent, Morgan Dulian, said, “The number one issue that I see in the school board is student outcomes, student performance, so we talk to military folks all the time.
Tamara Kruse Roselius, also running for Seat A, said, “Right now, I think our focus needs to be teacher retention. Accountability, budget, obviously, need addressed. Teacher retention is huge. We have lost 25% of our workforce in the last 10 years, and we need to do everything we can to keep our teachers. Right now, we have teachers coming in, getting experience and leaving for other, better benefit programs, so again, this is a twofold problem.
