It is a participant university of the former “985” Project in China, and also one of the first universities approved under the national"Double First-Class" Initiative, China’s “Excellence Initiative” for institutions of higher education.
The history of the School of Optical and Electronic Information can be traced back to the Optical Instrument Teaching and Research Group and Laser Research Group of the Department of Mechanics 1 established by the Huazhong Institute of Technology in 1971. The school started the professional development of laser and optoelectronics earlier in China.
Applicants from the following priority areas are encouraged to apply: optical engineering, electronic science and technology, and other natural science disciplines.
Those who qualify for Overseas Outstanding Young Scholars Program initiated by the National Natural Science Foundation of China will be provided with a living allowance amounting to 500,000 RMB and research funds ranging from 1 to 3 million RMB. This financial aid will be granted in accordance with the government's allocation policy with a 1:1 matching ratio. The state and the university provide 2 million RMB in settling-in allowance and housing subsidy in total.
