Fact Check: Video of Israel’s May strike on Gaza falsely shared as October

A video of an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza strip in May 2023 has been mislabeled on social media as showing a retaliatory strike to a surprise attack on Oct. 7 by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

It can be traced to aYouTube upload by the Associated Press, titled: “Israeli strike hits house in northern Gaza.” The description says the footage was shot on May 13 in Beit Lahiya, a town close to Gaza’s northern border.Miscaptioned. The video shows airstrikes in Gaza in May 2023 and predates the Oct.7 attacks.
