A video of an Israeli airstrike on the Gaza strip in May 2023 has been mislabeled on social media as showing a retaliatory strike to a surprise attack on Oct. 7 by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas.

The Iran-backed Hamas group on Oct. 7 carried out its biggest attack on Israel in years, killing at least 100 Israelis, However, the video of the explosion predates the October 2023 attack by several months. It can be traced to aYouTube upload by the Associated Press, titled: “Israeli strike hits house in northern Gaza.” The description says the footage was shot on May 13 in Beit Lahiya, a town close to Gaza’s northern border.Miscaptioned. The video shows airstrikes in Gaza in May 2023 and predates the Oct.7 attacks.
