The Summit will take place on 9-11 July 2024 and will commemorate the landmark 75th anniversary of NATO , which was founded on 4 April 1949 with the signing of the North Atlantic Treaty in Washington, DC.

Members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization are meeting for their annual summit in Washington, marking 75 years of the alliance.to provide collective security against the Soviet Union, which at the time was demonstrating remarkable aggression and making moves to occupy large portions of Europe. Within the NATO treaty, Article Five establishes the principle of collective defense, stating that an attack on one NATO member is an attack on all members, linking the countries in unity.

75 years ago NATO started with just 12 countries, now it has 32 members across Europe and North America., everyone is welcome. But, aspiring members are supposed to meet certain political and economic standards, like having a functioning democratic system, and fair treatment of minority populations and they’ve got to be willing to pay their fair share for NATO's military operations if one of their fellow members is attacked.

The upcoming presidential elections could impact NATO. Both presumptive nominees claim they have strengthened the alliance. President Joe Biden says he is committed to the alliance and boasts about expanding and solidifying NATO. Former President Donald Trumpdata, 58% of Americans view NATO favorably. It’s unclear how much NATO will impact voters’ decisions this November. However, with recent questions about Biden’s mental fitness, many eyes will be on his performance as he hosts the summit this week.
