Trump is traveling to New York City to participate in the United Nations General Assembly. ordered another airstrike on Friday targeting narco-terrorists attempting to smuggle drugs into the United States via boat. This marks the third deadly U.S. military strike in the Caribbean this month as the White House intensifies its crackdown on drug trafficking and criminal groups designated as foreign terrorist organizations., a draft bill is circulating that could grant Trump the authority to use military force against drug cartels and nations that support them. The draft, which would expire in five years unless renewed by Congress, was discussed by individuals familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity. The legality of these strikes has been questioned. The New York Times reported that a "wide range" of legal experts said the boat attacks were illegal under domestic and international law because they targeted suspected smugglers without due process. However,, Trump told Charles Grassley, the president pro tempore of the Senate, that he defended the strike as lawful under his Article II powers as Commander in Chief, framing it as an act of self-defense against violent drug cartels that he claims threaten U.S. security.eight transnational criminal groups as "foreign terrorist organizations." According to the U.S. State Department, these include Mexican cartels such as the Sinaloa and CJNG, which are major players in global drug trafficking. Other groups, like the Gulf and Northeast cartels, control specific regions, while Tren de Aragua and MS-13 have roots in Venezuela and Los Angeles, respectively. While all these groups pose significant threats, the Sinaloa and CJNG cartels are the largest and most sophisticated, controlling global drug trafficking networks and massive fentanyl flows into the U.S. The other groups, though serious threats regionally, have more localized operations.
