showing a Kroger receipt with an added"BLM tax" has gone viral, with over a thousand shares as people believe the supermarket is charging people in the name of Black Lives Matter.
Among those sharing the doctored image was the page Coalition of Conservative Women, which noted,"Please be careful nor to patronize any establishment that places a bogus surcharge." USA TODAY has reached out to the page for a comment."The post that’s circulating with a BLM receipt code is a dupe. It’s a photoshopped version of ... the coin shortage code/language on the original receipt," Kristal Howard, Kroger head of corporate communications, told USA TODAY in an email.
"The senseless killings of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor — and so many more, too many more across our country — have shaken us to our core," McMullen said. "I share in everyone’s feelings of sadness and outrage for the victims. The pain is deep and raw. My heart goes out to their families, friends and communities."
