Facebook closes in on $650 million settlement of a lawsuit claiming it illegally gathered biometric data
Facebook is nearing settlement of a lawsuit that claimed it illegally collected and stored millions of users' biometric data without permission.The suit was brought by user in Illinois, who claimed the company had violated state law through its suggestions of which friends to tag in photos.
The revised settlement agreement resolved the court's concerns, leading to the preliminary approval of the class action settlement, Judge James Donato wrote in an order filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
