Operators of Boeing Co.’s 787 Dreamliner must inspect the jet’s cockpit seats.
A new Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, built for American Airlines, is seen moving along the runway at Paine Field in Everett, Washington, in November 2020. Boeing has discovered a manufacturing problem at a key structure in the nose of the 787 Dreamliner. It now cannot meet its target of delivering more than half of the parked 787s this year and will further reduce production. The Federal Aviation Administration mandated that operators of Boeing Co.
“The FAA has received, with increasing frequency since March 2024, reports of uncommanded horizontal movement of the Captain’s or First Officer’s seat, when occupied,” the regulator said in a filing Monday. Due to “the risk to the flying public” the FAA said it decided to issue the so-called airworthiness directive as a final rule, rather than proposing it first.
