Alaska’s Congressional delegation voted in support of the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act, calling the legislation a key part of the safety and success of Alaska’s future air travel.
The bill first passed the Senate, which extended the outgoing law’s expiration date by one week to give the House the necessary time to review and vote on the bill without putting the FAA in a bind. The agency said around 3,600 workers would have to be furloughed if the legislation expired at midnight Friday.
Sens. Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski echoed Peltola in their support of the bill. Both voted in the Senate on Thursday to pass the act, which was sent over to the House following an 88-4 vote In a statement, Sullivan said Alaska’s unique aviation environment was necessary to “provide flexibility from one-size-fits-all regulations that just don’t work for our state, and invest robustly in all aspects of our aviation infrastructure.”
