“They cordoned off the area where it crashed on the runway,” Hanson said. Emergency services including ambulances and fire trucks were in the area, he said. “The pilot is safe and has been transported to Bassett Army Hospital for further evaluation,” the statement said. “Our people are our most important resource, and we are committed in ensuring their safety and security,” Col. Paul Townsend, commander of the 354th Fighter Wing, said as part of the statement. “I can assure you the United States Air Force will conduct a thorough investigation in hopes to minimize the chances of such occurrences from happening again.”There are 54 of the fighter jets stationed at Eielson, which is located about 25 miles southeast of Fairbanks.
