Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott finds a hole between Philadelphia Eagles tight end Jack Stoll and defensive tackle Hassan Ridgeway during the first quarter of an NFL football game at Lincoln Financial Field on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022.PHILADELPHIA – Apologies are in order for Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott.
Well, on Saturday night, Elliott proved once again how valuable he is to this Cowboys team. Elliott rushed for 87 yards on 18 carries in the Cowboys’ 51-26 victory. He needed 85 rushing yards to reach 1,000, a statistic that seems meaningless given what the Cowboys are trying to accomplish this season.
But it was Elliott who set the tone for a dormant running game with his best performance in nearly two months. Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones said Elliott was dealing with a bone bruise. Elliott eventually said he didn’t have a bone bruise, that it was something else. If you speak with Elliott, those numbers are something he will care about when he retires. Pushing this Cowboys’ team to a deep playoff run is more important to him.
