Millions of spectators across Texas are preparing to experience the total solar eclipse — but weather predictions have dampened excitement.
A Texas Department of Transportation sign warns of possible delays due to an eclipse-related surge in traffic in the area. For more information about the total solar eclipse on April 8, including where to watch, start time and events happening around San Antonio,
While the eclipse itself will start around noon, the phenomenon of totality is set to start locally around 1:30 p.m. San Antonio hasn’t seen a total solar eclipse overhead since 1397 — about 95 years before Christopher Columbus’ famous journey that would credit him for discovering the Americas and about 321 years before our city was founded. Our beloved city won’t see another total solar eclipse darken its skies until 2343 — about 319 years from now.
With so many guests to the area, the Texas Department of Transportation is warning residents that traffic may be worse than usual Monday and is advising drivers to be extra cautious during the eclipse and when heading to or from eclipse watch parties or events.
