Houston Christian girls make no secret of desire for state repeat, open district play with rout

Courtlyn Cameron and her Houston Christian teammates were practically impenetrable for Jaisley Burnet and Awty International in the Mustangs' 61-8 rout Tuesday night.Coming off an undefeated season and its first Southwest Prep Conference championship, Houston Christian is looking to repeat. Awty International needs no more persuading about the Mustangs' chances.

“We’re trying to play the right way, play together. Our motto is ‘We over me,’ and so we try to make it a whole team atmosphere to make sure every single kid is enjoying the experience and representing Houston Christian to the fullest,” coach Ryan Bickham said. “Our goal is to be back-to-back champions. …We want to play the right way every time we come on to the court, respect our opponent, and let the chips fall where they may.

The Mustangs won't match last season's perfect record, but Bickham offered an explanation as he talked about this season's nonconference schedule.
