Goat herder Oscar Espinoza comes from Peru to Oakland each summer to tend to goats paid for by the city to eat tinder-dry saplings and weeds to prevent fires. The Claremont Club & Spa is a host site for hundreds of events, but this week is especially busy.

With boutique shop Dorian Webb Lifestyle at 6109 La Salle Ave. in Montclair Village ghosts, who promise to behave if you book a haunted tour of the property through Oct. 31.

The tour includes a blood red cocktail made with whiskey, elderberry juice and a sprig of rosemary. Top off the ghoulish event with some blistered shishito peppers and a frighteningly delicious plate of prime rib sliders in Limewood, the Claremont Club & Spa’s uber-popular bar and restaurant.The Oakland and Berkeley hills firestorm ignited 32 years ago this week, roaring through dense underbrush.
