“For reasons that we're not quite sure yet, this one decided to fly west.”
“Some people flew in from Texas and Southern California. Some of the most prominent birders in the country came and found it,” Novato resident and consulting avian biologist Daniel Edelstein told the Marin Independent Journal. “It’s a life list bird for a lot of people, including for me, who have never seen it.”
Overington said that dozens of bird watchers were still eagerly searching Friday morning for the warbler, which was likely last seen Oct. 23. While the bird’s presence is a mystery, it’s a welcome one. “Climate change is happening. Patterns are changing. We don't know how this bird got here,” he said. “I will say this is — up until this point — a unique event. And that is why I think it caused so much interest and excitement for birders here.
