Johns County Sheriff discusses safety after 12-year-old hit and killed riding mini dirt bike– The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of a Bryceville man after investigators say he sexually abused a dog. The 68-year-old was arrested Thursday, Feb. 26, and charged with sexual activities involving an animal, authorities said. He was booked into the Nassau County Jail & Detention Center on a bond exceeding $15,000.Investigators said they received information from Nassau County Animal Services about allegations involving a female pit bull at a home in Bryceville. When detectives arrived, a witness told officers he had entered the suspect’s room after checking on him following knee surgery and observed him engaging in sexual activity with the dog. A second witness told detectives the suspect admitted to engaging in sexual acts with the dog, investigators said. Nassau County Animal Services responded to evaluate the dog’s welfare. An animal control officer told investigators the exam indicated possible injury. The dog was removed from the residence and is receiving veterinary care. Nassau County Animal Services said the dog will remain in its care and will eventually be adopted into a safe home. “This is an extremely disturbing and gut-wrenching case involving the sexual assault of a defenseless animal by a demented, nasty, and sick individual,” Sheriff Bill Leeper said. “It is our responsibility to protect those who cannot protect themselves,” NCAS Director Steve MacKinnon said. “This case underscores the importance of community members speaking up.
