The World Health Organization says the expulsion of technicians and power cuts to a health laboratory could lead to issues with biological materials.

abc.net.au/news/un-warns-of-lab-risk-more-displacement-amid-sudan-conflict/102266342UN officials say one side in the Sudan conflict has seized control of a national health lab in the capital of Khartoum that holds biological material, calling it an "extremely dangerous" development.

The announcement came as officials warned that more refugees could flee Sudan despite a ceasefire between rival forces. Nima Saeed Abid, the World Health Organization's representative in Sudan, expressed concerns that "one of the fighting parties" — he did not identify which one — had seized control of the central public health laboratory in Khartoum and "kicked out all of the technicians".

The expulsion of technicians and power cuts in Khartoum means "it is not possible to properly manage the biological materials that are stored in the lab for medical purposes," WHO said. The figures could rise, she cautioned. Ms Sarrado did not have numbers for the five other countries neighbouring Sudan, but the UNHCR has cited unspecified numbers of those fleeing Sudan and arriving in Egypt.

Health Minister announces shake-up to PBSHealth Minister announces shake-up to PBSHealth Minster Mark Butler has announced changes to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme, allowing for more than 300 medicines to be approved for two months' supply to patients. “The advice from the advisory committee is that more than 300 medicines, 325 common medicines be approved for two or even three months’ supply to patients,” Mr Butler said during a media conference on Wednesday. Mr Butler said the current rule is that only 30 days’ supply of tablets is able to be supplied to patients. “This means that – given that general practitioners, or GPs are able to issue a script with five repeats – this means that patients with chronic disease at the very least need to make two visits to a GP every year and 12 visits to a pharmacist every year to get their medicines.”
