The National Weather Service is not mincing words, warning that “extremely dangerous, life-threatening” arctic air will spread over Alabama following a cold front that should enter the state on Thursday evening and quickly shift southward.
The coldest air Alabama has seen in years is expected to move into the state starting late Thursday night. Here are the low temperatures expected by Friday morning. The National Weather Service warns Alabamians to take precautions now for the extreme cold.Confidence continues to increase that extremely cold temperatures will be coming to Alabama starting late Thursday, and wind chill and hard freeze warnings have been issued for Alabama.
Those winds also have the potential to knock down a few tree limbs and could down power lines, so have a plan in mind in case the lights -- and the heat -- go out, forecasters said. There will also be the possibility of some light snow behind the front across parts of north and extreme north-central Alabama on Thursday night into Friday morning.
