DOTHAN, Ala. -The National Weather Service issued an Extreme Cold Warning for South Alabama as temperatures dip into the low 20s or perhaps the upper teens. The warning area stretches into North Florida and southern Georgia.
The forecast calls for wind chills of 8 degrees and temperatures in the upper teens for part of the warning area, and though not all places will get that cold, the entire area will spend the next several days contending with cold conditions.Wear protective clothing such as a hat, face mask and heavy gloves or mittens if you have plans to be outdoors. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes, they should be wrapped, drained or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.Make frequent checks on older family, friends and neighbors.
