Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen has warned Congress that 'extraordinary measures' will be necessary unless they raise or suspend the debt ceiling.

New Treasury rulemaking would expand the U.S. Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States’ jurisdiction to review land sales near 56 additional military sites, bringing the overall number to 227. A 2018 law granted the committee authority to review real estate transactions near sensitive sites across the U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen warned Congress that “extraordinary measures” will be necessary as early as Jan. 14 unless they raise or suspend the debt ceiling. Executive Vice President of the National Taxpayers Union Brandon Arnold says that those extraordinary measures will likely kick in to extend the amount of time Congress and the President will have to come to deal about the debt ceiling.
