An extra-alarm fire at a pallet yard Monday in the Little Village neighborhood was at least the third serious fire at the West Side operation since 2014. Firefighters responded to a lumber fire at a pallet plant shortly after 8 p.m. Monday in the 2500 block of West 25th Street. A 2-11 alarm was called at the pallet plant a short time later, fire officials said.The windy conditions Monday made extinguishing the blaze difficult so fire officials called a foam unit to the scene to help choke oxygen to stack pallets which continue to burn at 25th and Rockwell streets.
The fire was struck out but crews remained on the sceneand no injuries were reported. The cause was undetermined, officials said.
