The New Jersey fire killed two adult sisters, their teen niece and one woman's 4-month old. It likely started from improperly discarded smoking material on the porch, authorities said.

Just one escaped. “Nobody could be helped,” Buttacavoli said, moved to tears by the tragedy. “It’s very heartbreaking, and it’s very heartbreaking for the whole neighborhood. We’re very tight-knit here.” Buttacavoli said she knows the family well and had previously been inside the home, though it had been a few years. Neighbors had recently complained about the condition of the home with multiple boats, cars and trailers parked on the lawn in front of and alongside the house, she said. The fire spread to some of those vehicles.

Four people including a 14-year-old girl and an infant died in a blaze Tuesday afternoon in Lacey Township.Even the vehicles in the small driveway and on the lawn were filled with belongings, she said.
