The Alamo Defenders Monument, Alamo Stadium statues and El Conquistador Hotel were envisioned — but never brought to life.

You can’t see them, but they’re there — at least, they’re in seldom-seen documents. They’re the ghost structures that were imagined but never built — or at least not in the way they were planned. And they are haunted by the spirits of dissent, impracticality and colonialism. For spooky season, here are a few such specters of the San Antonio streetscape.
