The site features several historical homes that are available to tour including the 1870 Yates House, which was the home of Reverend Jack Yates, a freed slave and influential member of Houston’s Freedman’s Town. His great-granddaughter, Martha Whiting-Goddard walks us through the family’s home. Then, go inside the Kellum-Noble House, which used to be a plantation and was part of the slave trade route.
We also explore the Houston Museum of African American Culture, Juneteenth book recommendations for children and the origin of the ‘Absolute Equality’ Juneteenth mural project with artist Reginald C.
